From the return of our favorite characters to potential plot twists, we’re breaking down everything there is to know about the upcoming season. Last Updated: August 25, 2023.

When is the Chicago Fire season 12 release date?

Although NBC’s original plan was for the new season of Chicago Fire to be released in the fall, the network has been forced to delay the show’s return. As a result, season 12 will not premiere on NBC until 2024.

The One Chicago franchise is among the many broadcast franchises that have been affected by the ongoing writers and actors strikes. As filming on the new season will not be able to begin until the strikes have been resolved, NBC was forced to delay the return of its One Chicago shows which won’t be coming until spring 2024 at the soonest.

Who is part of the Chicago Fire season 12 cast?

At this time, NBC has not officially confirmed the full cast list for season 12 but we’re anticipating the returns of most if not all of our favorite Chicago Fire cast members. Still, there are a few question marks at the moment revolving around the status of a handful of cast members. Here is a list of those we do expect back for season 12:

  • Kara Killmer as Sylvie Brett
  • David Eigenberg as Christopher Herrmann
  • Joe Minoso as Joe Cruz
  • Miranda Rae Mayo as Stella Kidd
  • Alberto Rosende as Blake Gallo
  • Daniel Kyri as Darren Ritter
  • Hanako Greensmith as Violet Mikami
  • Eamonn Walker as Wallace Boden
  • Randy Flagler as Capp
  • Katelynn Shennett as Kylie
  • Anthony Ferraris as Tony
  • Jake Lockett as Sam Carver

Will Christian Stolte be in Chicago Fire season 12?

Unsurprisingly, NBC has not confirmed the status of Christian Stolte ahead of season 12’s premiere which makes sense given the show is looking to keep fans on the edge of their seats for as long as possible.

Given season 11 ended with Mouch flatlining in the hospital, there is a very real chance that Mouch will be killed off in the season premiere. Still, we’re optimistic that we haven’t seen the last of Mouch or Stolte.

Will Taylor Kinney be in Chicago Fire season 12?

At this time, Taylor Kinney has not confirmed whether he will be returning for season 12 of Chicago Fire. Kinney stepped away from the show unexpectedly in season 11, taking a leave of absence that resulted in his character not appearing in the final episodes of the season.

Following his leave of absence from the show, Kinney has not commented on his status with the show in any way which makes it hard to know whether he will be back or not. The one positive note for fans hoping to see more of Severide is that NBC has not announced Kinney’s departure from the show. As such, there is a strong chance that we’ll see Kinney back in some capacity next season.

Will Jesse Spencer be in Chicago Fire season 12?

Given how Chicago Fire season 11 ended, it seems quite possible we might see Jesee Spencer return as Matt Casey in season 12. However, we’re still waiting for NBC to confirm the contract status of Spencer who was a series regular on the show before stepping away in season 10.

Following his exit in the 200th episode, Spencer has made a series of appearances on the show including in the season 11 finale. In the episode, Casey got down on one knee to ask Brett to marry him — a move that has left fans hoping that it was designed to find a way to bring Spencer back into the fold in a larger capacity.

Is there a Chicago Fire season 12 trailer?

Currently, there is not yet a trailer for the upcoming twelfth season of Chicago Fire which isn’t entirely surprising given that production on season 12 has not yet begun. It’s not expected we’ll get any new footage until 2024 when we get closer to the show’s returns.

Has Chicago Fire season 12 started filming yet?

Filming on Chicago Fire season 12 has not yet begun and it’s unlikely that the show will enter production anytime soon. Typically, new episodes of Chicago Fire will enter production sometime in mid-to-late July; however, due to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, production will not be able to begin until after the strike comes to an end.

Once the unions have reached new deals with the studios, we expect production will begin as quickly as possible as NBC looks to get the series back up and running.

How many episodes is Chicago Fire season 12 going to be?

Typically, new seasons of Chicago Fire are about 20-22 episodes long; however, season 12 is on pace to be the show’s shortest season yet. Due to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, production on the season has been delayed which is likely to result in a season that consists of no more than 13 episodes in total.
