The Jeopardy! Social Media Team’s Top Moments from Season 39

With summer reruns in full effect and Season 40 kicking off on September 11, it’s the perfect time to reflect on some of the most memorable moments from this past season. That’s why we asked our social media team, who strives tirelessly all year long to highlight the biggest and most exciting show moments, to share a few of their favorites from the last year — and what went into their selections.

1. Luigi de Guzman’s Pronunciations

September 17, 2022 - It was so fun watching Luigi play Jeopardy!. Not everyone has the presence of mind to respond correctly AND add their own flair. We watch all the tapings live in the studio, and Luigi's games were filled with our notes about enjoying his pronunciations and charming demeanor.

2. The Dab

September 23, 2022 - Fun fact! The player photos featured in the weekly lineup on Jeopardy!’s website — which we internally call MAVs — are taken with the show’s gameplay camera. Contestants also get their photos taken with the host of their show. We don’t typically request behind-the-scenes footage of these photoshoots for posting on social, but when we saw this video, we thought it was epic. Dabbing with the GOAT? What could be cooler?

3. Meece

October 27, 2022 - “No! No, Jack!” There were a lot of fun moments in the first-ever Jeopardy! Second Chance competition but nothing beats Jack Weller responding “meece” thinking it was the plural of “moose.” We knew right away it was the perfect moment for our inaugural post on TikTok— short, self-explanatory, and totally relatable.

4. Amy For the Win

November 22, 2022 - In celebration of Amy Schneider’s Tournament of Champions win, we wanted to create something that really popped. Inspired by her iconic pink dress, playing with color and texture was essential to bringing this post to life. You know we had to make #TeamAmy proud.

5. Cris Pannullo by the Numbers

December 7, 2022 - After taking a break from regular-season play in the fall for Second Chance and the Tournament of Champions, we were back to watching Cris Pannullo’s exciting run. Over the course of his 21-game streak, Cris racked up some pretty impressive stats, which inspired our team to draw this amazing concept art:

We pushed hard to post the drawing as-is on our social channels, but changed our minds when one of our talented designers was able to turn it into a lovely infographic.

6. Duncan vs. Ken:

A Success StoryJanuary 24, 2023 - Slacking off isn’t an option if you want to be successful, and that’s one lesson Duncan Bowling revealed(Opens an external site) he learned all too well from his high school Quiz Bowl coach. That brings us to our next pick on this list, the “Success” poster: A simple reminder for all Jeopardy! fans (and especially for Duncan) that success really does come in the form of Ken Jennings.

7. It's Just a Little Crush

March 1, 2023 - It’s not every day that you get to meet your childhood crush, but for Dan Oxman that dream became a reality during the Jeopardy! High School Reunion Tournament. Dan used his contestant interview as an opportunity to “shoot his shot” with Jeopardy! host Mayim Bialik. Dan may have struck out, but the two took the cutest photos together during a commercial break, which garnered plenty of “awws” from our studio audience.

8. The Library Crimes Unit

May 8, 2023 - Andrew He is no stranger to the Alex Trebek Stage, but it was a little strange for his friends to see him all stern-faced in our Jeopardy! Masters promo photo. “‘Don’t look so serious, otherwise people are going to think you’re on Law & Order: Library Crimes Unit,’” Andrew’s friends told him. And as soon as we heard that, we knew we had our target. DUN DUN!

9. Hip-Hop Hooray for Ben Chan!

May 19, 2023 - Don’t get it twisted, Ben Chan is a true hip-hop connoisseur, so much that he impressed Mayim Bailik with his knowledge of DJ Kool Herc(Opens an external site). Also, did we mention he earned the respect of the young and the skeptical on TikTok? Yeeahhhh, put that on a record and spin it!

10. James Holzhauer Winning Jeopardy! Masters

May 25, 2023 - From sporting his Tournament of Champions belt to stealing Canadiana from Mattea Roach, James Holzhauer had so many great moments throughout the Jeopardy! Masters tournament. And though he played the self-described “game-show villain,” it was evident that he valued camaraderie between his fellow players — and even his “nemesis,” Ken Jennings. So, we chose to showcase James’ lighter side and give him a well-deserved victory lap.
